Discourse Community - “Inventing the University”

I want to say that what the university education taught me most is the PUSH of thinking. For most of the time, you are require to think in the class in many ways. I remember my high school life (well, a typical Asian style, squeeze tons of knowledge to you hard drive and most of the people do not have enough RAM or the CPU is not fast enough to get the material out of your brain), sitting and only listening. I am sorry for the education system in Asia and I understand that there is a need for us to learn so much in high school but do not have enough time to cover it clearly.
So, when I first know "critical thinking", I feel that my mind is free to open but do not have the ability to organize it well. That was the moment when I realized that I need to practice the way of think in order to let people follow my idea.

Ok, back to the topic- Discourse Community. In my major, architecture, require a sense of feeling the form and establish your idea in a strong, persuasive and attractive dialog. Most of the topic are linked to the popular discussion in the architecture like "sustainability" or "movement". So, most of the time if you really want to get into the topic, you need to provide a opinion which, first, can be agree with most of the audience but there are some don't, second, have a further discussion value. Then, the air in the studio will became more active and you will be able to add more things into the conversation since it is you started the topic. After a long time of that, you will get what others think in gernaral and therefore you can make your place in the community by sharing the idea each other interested.
